ENCOUNTER WITH ANCIENT TIMES
This day long trip stars from the main lobby of your hotel and takes you on
an expedition through the State of Guerrero on your way to Xochicalco and

through a two mile tunnel that passes under the mountain range of Acapulco.
As we drive to the archeological site you will be able to observe the
changes in vegetation, landscape and climate. After going through the State
Capital, Chilpancingo, we will cross the highest bridge in Latin America. We

most exciting and richest archaeological sites in all Mexico. It was an area
developed during the period 800 to 900 A.D. Xochicalco was not only the
oldest known fortress in Middle America, but also a religious center. After
visiting the site we will drive to San José de Vista Hermosa for Lunch. San
José de Vista Hermosa is a 450 year old plantation built by Hernan Cortes
that in later years became a sugar mill. We will have some time on our own

Don’t Miss:
Acapulco's Clavadistas (cliff divers) at La Quebrada. The divers leap from cliffs 136 above the crashing
Pacific, landing in an 11 ft. deep inlet.
Mercado Municipal,
and Shopping in the boutiques and handicrafts markets along the Costera Miguel Alemán.
El
Fuerte de San Diego,
a fort built in the 18th century to protect Acapulco from pirates and home
of the Anthropology Museum
La
Casa de Mascaras (“The House of Masks”) in downtown Acapulco with its
collection of Guerrero masks. Guerrero is renowned for its folk art and
masks, some of which are worn in its traditional folkloric dances.
Los
Flamingos Hotel - stop in for a drink at the hilltop Los Flamingos Hotel, built
in the 1930’s – where Hollywood’s biggest stars including Frank Sinatra,
John Wayne, & Gary Cooper partied.
The
Home of Dolores Olmedo is a work of art. In 1956, the renowned Mexican
artist Diego Rivera covered its outside wall with a mural of colorful mosaic
tiles, shells, and stones. The unique work is one of his last.
La Quebrada
The internationally famous La Quebrada is a symbol of Acapulco, with a
towering 35-meter high rock wall, from which divers launch themselves into
the sea surrounded by cliffs and an excellent viewing area, all within
walking distance of downtown.
You can eat at one of the local restaurants while you enjoy watching the
divers - local residents who show man's defiance of the sea - an impressive
sight that is even more spectacular at sunset, when divers plunge into the
sea with torches in their hands. The site was formed when a hillside was
dynamited and split in two, and this world-famous show has been performed
since 1934. Shows are daily at 12:45, 7:30, 8:30 and 10:30 PM. You can climb
down a ladder to a rock at the foot of the cliff, known as La Plancha, but
we recommend that you be cautious and take a change of clothes and sneakers.
The Cathedral
The Cathedral of Our Lady of Solitude embellishes the Zocalo or Plaza de
Armas with its modern and simple appearance. The cathedral is decorated with
tiles, banners and geometric figures in gold and blue. You can find typical
handcrafts on sale in the surrounding areas.
El Zócalo
The Zocalo is the typical center square found in most Mexican cities. Here,
like in most cases, it faces the cathedral, with a gazebo at the center,
trees and shrubs of different varieties, shapes and sizes, pleasant benches
to sit on, and granite fountains that add to its relaxing ambience with the
sound of running water.
The Tres Palos Lagoon
Practically surrounded by mangroves, this lagoon has enormous biodiversity
and is an excellent place to see local wildlife. The lagoon is 15 kilometers
long, and 6 kilometers across at its widest point. At its northwest end it
flows into the Sabana River, and is connected to the sea by a canal. Near
the international airport, east of Acapulco.
