Fishing
With new flights direct from San Diego
just in time for the peak fishing season, look for an abundance of
Cabrilla, Grouper, Sierra, Snappers – and prime Yellowtail.
Fishing tackle is available for hire in Loreto so that fishing enthusiasts can
catch marlin, yellowtail, rooster fish, sail fish, dorado, sea bass and giant
squid in the waters of the Gulf of California or the Sea of Cortés.
Loreto
- the oldest town in Baja California greets visitors with unspoiled
beaches, the azure Sea of Cortez – and world-class big game fishing.
Surrounded by the magnificent Sierra de la Giganta mountain range and the
spectacular desert, the waters in and around Loreto are considered by many
as the world's finest big game fishing area. Though there are literally
thousands of different fish species in the Sea of Cortez, most fishermen
come for the abundance and great size of Sailfish,
Marlin, Dorado,
Yellowfin Tuna,
Yellowtail and Roosterfish. The tranquil
setting of the unspoiled town combines with an excellent choice of hotel
accommodations to create the perfect Oasis for a weekend getaway.

physical prowess, it might be windsurfing. The afternoon winds off the Sea of
Cortez can easily support the most adventurous wind surfer. your every nautical

Snorkel & Scuba
The enormous island of del Carmen lies just
opposite Loreto, and, a little further out to sea, one can see some smaller
islands, including Coronados, Danzante, Montserrat
and Santa Catalina. Together, these form a natural habitat for some fantastic
terrestrial and marine fauna. Underwater, divers can swim among seals, dolphins,
and colorful tropical fish; on land, you will find birds and reptiles.

Whale Watching:
The Sea of Cortez, declared a whale sanctuary since 1946, is the
perfect place to literally 'touch nature'. The Gray Whale give birth to
and nurture their young between January and March each year. It is one of
the true pleasures of a Baja Sur eco-tour to get close to these
magnificent creatures. Gray whales are known to approach small boats
playfully, putting visitors within arm's length. |

Riding
You can go horseback riding on the
beaches in Loreto; or if you prefer, you can ride a horse along the paths
